Day by Day
Kisoro is a perfect base for gorilla trackers, lake loungers, volcano hikers and bird lovers as well as those looking for a mystical place in nature. Lake Mutanda, Lake Chahafi, Lake Mulehe, Lake Kayumbu and the Virunga mountains make for magnificent views. We have a short stop at the Equator for an informative talk, photography and the equator experience. Continue up to the Park, check in to your accommodation of choice for dinner and overnight. Â
Alternatively, Fly on a scheduled (daily) flight to Kihihi Airstrip or Kisoro Airstrip. (1hr) Upon arrival, you’ll be met by our representative and driven to the Lodge. There are a variety of optional activities that can be done this afternoon (time permitting), these include: forest walk or community tour.Â

After breakfast, In the company of an experienced park ranger, you will be tracking the whereabouts of one of the habituated family groups who live in the park. Depending on the location of the gorillas on any given day the walk can take anything from 2 to 7 hours. Once the family of gorillas has been located, settle into your surroundings and enjoy the hour you have to quietly observe these fascinating primates whose habits and mannerisms remind us so much of our own. It is real hiking and being physically fit is recommended.

The following optional activities are available for today;
- Batwa Cultural Trail. Local guides take you through the 8km gentle trail in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, demonstrating the traditional ways of life of the Batwa people. The trail culminates with a moving performance in the Garama Cave, an important spiritual and cultural site for the Batwa.Â
- Golden monkey tracking. These small monkeys are fast and live in groups of about 30 individuals or more roaming over a large territory in the virunga volcanoes.Â
- All three volcanoes in this park can be summited, taking a full day each. Views from the peaks are well worth the effort - taking in Rwanda, DR Congo, the Virungas, the Rwenzoris, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Lake Edward
- The best birding in Mgahinga also takes in some of its most beautiful scenery - in the gorge between Mts Gahinga and Sabinyo, through the bamboo forest, and in the montane forest, where the beautiful Rwenzori Turaco may be observed.
