Overview
Pian Upe Wildlife reserve is located in the north-eastern semi-arid part of Uganda, spanning a land area of 2043 sqm. It is undisputedly the largest wildlife reserve in the country and the second-largest protected area in Uganda, after the Murchison Falls National Park. The Reserve also joins a series of two other protected areas like Mount. Elgon National Park and the Matheninko & Bokora Wildlife Reserve in north-eastern Uganda to form the Mount. Elgon Conservation Area, which is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA)

Day by Day
We set off early morning for Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. We have stopovers in Mabiira Forest, Jinja, and Mbale. Arrive in the evening for check-in and overnight.

During the morning and evening game drives expect to see birds to like the Karamoja Apalis, which is endemic to north-eastern Uganda. Ostriches (both wild and domesticated) are not hard to find here. Green bitta, Abyssinian ground hornbills, superb sterlings, secretary birds, and even the shoebill can be sighted on the park’s stretch of land. The reserve’s boundary is broken by the extension of Lake Opeta, one in two places in Uganda and the entire world where the Fox’s Weaver bird can be sighted.
Mammal species like lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, elands, oribi and the only roan remaining antelope in Uganda. There are also magnificent reptiles to sight at especially the rock pythons, puff adders, water snakes, savanna monitors, agama, chameleons, geckos. The biggest population of lizards that are found in this remarkable reserve is mainly the savanna monitors. Primates like olive baboons, patas monkeys, vervet monkeys, and others.
